Session 1: Cancer and the Workplace
Wellspring has developed educational and rehab programs—Return to Work and Back at Work—that assist employees and employers with workplace issues related to cancer. In this presentation, employers will learn about the far-reaching impact of cancer in the workplace in terms of productivity, disruption, costs, absenteeism, re-training, retention and morale, from the perspective of both the employee and the employer, as well as strategies to address these issues and mitigate negative outcomes.

Session 3b: Future Treatment Needs for Canadians
This presentation will discuss the paradigm shift in how cancer will be approached over the next decade, with new "targeted therapies,” many of which will be oral and need coverage by insurance (depending on the provinces). It will also cover the perspectives and challenges posed by the Canada Health Act, the Joint Oncology Drug Review funding approval process and interprovincial disparities in coverage.

Session 4: How Employers can help Employees—A Patient’s Perspective
This presentation will touch on Barry Stein’s personal pathway of treatment after diagnosed with advanced colon cancer. The purpose is to assist employers in understanding employees’ needs following a diagnosis of cancer. The business case for a Comprehensive Workplace Health Promotion program will be made addressing, cost savings, employee satisfaction, positive organizational profile and due diligence. Finally, a short conclusion on how the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada programs have been addressing employee/patient needs and the need to work together with employers to bring about change.
