Benefits Canada and its partners are pleased to present the Tenth Anniversary Defined Contribution Plan Summit,
February 4-6, 2009 at the Fairmont Mont Tremblant hotel in Mont Tremblant, Quebec.
Defined contribution plans have the potential to generate great returns, but they also pose considerable challenges. DC plan sponsors and members share a common goal—ensuring benefits adequacy and sufficient retirement income—but this can be difficult to achieve, since plan members must shoulder a portion of the risk and responsibility. Sponsors continually struggle with how to get members involved and make appropriate choices to secure their retirement future. That’s why engagement—ensuring that members understand and value their plans, and helping them to make decisions—is becoming increasingly important.
This year’s DC Plan Summit will look at DC plans through the lens of plan member engagement, exploring the factors behind plan members’ behaviours and their retirement planning decisions. Topics will include effective communications, strategies for attraction and retention and the use of tools such as target date funds and auto features. This is a special conference, designed solely for senior-level personnel at DC pension plan sponsor organizations. The spirit of the DC Plan Summit is purely educational; a retreat or "think tank" forum for discussion and debate among leading thinkers in the field of DC plans. Coverage of the conference will be included in an upcoming issue of Benefits Canada.
