Building the Business Case for An Investment in Benefit Design Change

The task of decreasing plan costs while improving health and productivity is fundamentally an economic question: how can greater outputs be derived from fewer inputs? The solution requires an initial investment into proper tools and strategies. However, in order to bring key decision makers on board, benefits professionals must develop an appropriate business case with relevant return on investment (ROI) calculations.

Drug Plan Compliance


Many factors affect patients' adherence to medications which in turn has an impact on outcomes. This presentation will explore those factors, including patient behavior and pharmacy benefit design, and will examine the relationship between medication adherence and clinical and economic outcomes, including both direct and indirect costs. Several employer examples will also be presented showing how lower prescription drug co-pays can lead to improved compliance and health care savings.

Examining Public Policy’s Influence on Private Drug Plans

This presentation will present an overview of the objectives and implementation of Bill 102 (Ontario’s Transparent Drug System for Patients Act) and will assess the current and future impact of this legislation on private payors such as group health insurance plans.  The presentation will also include a discussion on what other provinces, especially Quebec, are doing to reduce drug costs.
