The Erie St. Clair Regional Cancer Program has designed a unique and innovative workplace health information/ education, and cancer screening referral program called ‘Your Health Matters’ (YHM). The program includes a brief ‘personalized’ intervention strategy, designed to motivate employee interest and investment in prevention and screening behaviours. This presentation will highlight program partnerships, goals and key pilot outcomes including:
- Increased cancer screening participation,
- Increased participation in workplace support programs available,
- Improvements in participant modifiable risk factor status.

In this interactive session, past, present and future trends in the area of workplace health will be the focus. The latest industry research on workplace health programs will be reviewed to assess how far we have progressed in recent years, and we will determine a focus on future efforts with a view to cost containment measures and ensuring sustainable outcomes. In addition, we will explore ways to utilize data to better understand potential health risks, to educate and promote improved health in the workplace - and to drive greater accountability within prevention-based strategies.

Despite much activity related to workplace wellness and disease management in Canada, at this time, there is little evidence in scientific literature to support these types of programs. Dr. Neil MacKinnon will discuss the importance of conducting a well-designed evaluation of your wellness program and describe the key elements to include, such as the economic, clinical and humanistic outcomes, which are necessary to satisfy the needs of various stakeholders and provide that much-needed scientific evidence.
